Dear Kamehameha Shopping Center Administration,
I’ve been going to “Kamz”, as we call it, for more than 8 years now. Whether going there for groceries or even just to go for a bite, your services always have that Aloha spirit and kindness. But, overall Kamehameha Shopping Center has been a part of my life and has done such a great job serving.
However, we have encountered some problems throughout this year with one of most popular restaurants in the complex. This problem has happens to us many times. Whenever we would walk into Sumo Ramen, to eat in and have lunch we were never greeted. We would have to find a seat and seat our selves. The first time this incident occurred, is when my sister, my friends, and I went to go have lunch there. Waiting for about 10 minutes for the menus to be placed in front of us, the waitress finally sees us. Then after a couple of minutes the waitress calls us up and tells us to order up front, when we specifically told her that we were eating in. We were all confused the fact that we were coming in for lunch and not for takeout, so we let it slip and ordered our food. So far, we obviously weren’t too happy about the service and we were very concerned. It only then got worse when she brought out our orders out. Thinking we were going to get silverware and nice plates, which are usually used when you eat in, we got was takeout containers and plastic utensils instead. This made us more concerned. While we were eating, trying to enjoy our food, a lady and her daughter walk in. The same waitress greets them, seats them in their chairs, and places the menus nicely in front of them. She then took their orders and gives them water. Less than about 5 minutes their gyoza was in front of them; rather to us, we waited approximately 15 minutes for everything. We were finally done with our lunches, so we got up of our seat and started to walk out. Crossing the street to our parking space, the same waitress comes out of the restaurant and specifically tells us, “No! You guys have to come back and clean up!” in a very mean voice. We thought the waitress usually does her job and cleans up after the customers. We all weren’t too happy about the waitress telling us to clean up something that wasn't our job to do, so we ignored her and walked to our car.
We were very suspicious on why this waitress treated us this way, knowing Kamehameha Shopping Center has great service. We knew it wasn’t our ethnicity because the lady and her daughter looked the same ethnicity, just like us. So the only thing was our age.
As the week passed, I asked my other friends if they have gone through the same incident as ours. They told me that they have notice the same exact behavior on the same exact waitress.
Sumo Ramen is one of my favorite places to enjoy a bite, but I would suggest that the service there needs to be straightened up and have that Aloha spirit like all the other stores. Other than that this situation with teens eating at Sumo Ramen and getting this kind of treatment is still occurring.
Mahalo and Sincerely,
Micah Bulosan

Raves & Clubbing
Rough Draft
Teen age life is basically the process and transition from breaking the innocence and transforming into an adolescent. Throughout this transition teens go through many obstacles, from making decisions, choosing the right one, and the “after-effect” of the wrong decision. This all ties into consequences. One of the new “fads” of the 21st century for teens is raving & clubbing.
Teen raving and clubbing have the same type of environment, but raving is the new type of clubbing for teens. With catchy techno music, variety of sexuality, cool dance moves, and friendly invites raving draws any age to it. This is a place where teens like to “be themselves” and “kick-back”, aside from stress at school and home. These raves are usually held on late Friday nights and weekends. Drugs and alcohol are kept secret throughout the rave, since it’s illegal. Because these teens are so connected and friendly, they create that amount of trust and comfort toward each other, which makes the process of peer pressure easy to try a “drag” of weed or to sip “some” chasers.
But it isn’t only just about the drugs and alcohol. Teens also go there for hook-ups and sexual activity causing date rape, rape, one night stands, and even pregnancy. Obviously this type of environment is exposed to a more adolescent foundation. Now what happens when teens make the wrong decision?
When teens hear the word “consequence” it just goes in one ear out the other knowing and neglecting the fact that they’re going to have fun. But most wrong decisions made, the end results are negative. Why? Because, getting caught in any illegal activity, especially from police, leaves long term effects. From getting grounded to spending jail time, it’s still a consequence. Even getting pregnant seems like a consequence because they made the wrong decision of having sex and now the long-term effect is taking care of an upcoming infant that doesn’t know anything, that doesn’t have a healthily foundation, and that doesn’t know that it was created by “accident”.
Lives are at stake, not to only teens but the future of premarital infants. Having fun doesn’t always mean to go out to a rave or club and doing careless mistakes. Fun comes in difference shapes and sizes The choice is theirs and making the right decision comes in part of the process and transition of growing up.

Before Hitting the Skys (Coming of Age)
Mom and I pulled up to the drop off curve at the airport, “Okay this is it Mom” *Hugs* “Yeah, be good son, I love you” “I love you, too”. As I stepped out of the car I took a deep breath of a new beginning. Mom pops up the trunk; I grab my enormously, heavy, filled duffle bag and crouched it over my shoulder. As I watched my mom drive away, I hear the roaring, but graceful sounds of the airplanes. Wow, this is really it.
I see my friend Shain from afar, walking towards the door, “Hey Shain! Wait up!” I trotted my way to him with a face that looked unsure. Heavily breathing “Is anyone here yet?” stuffing his face with li hing mui watermelon candy, he goes, “Nope”. Before I walk through those doors, I felt a buzz – it was my phone. I dropped my duffle bag creating this big thud, on my knees I unzipped my small pocket and looked at my phone. It said “MOM calling”. I answered, “Hello?” “Hey, you left your small bag with your video recorder in it?” “You still want it?” An enormous plastic bag went over my head, God I wanna choke myself! “So what, you still want it?” I immediately answered, “Yeah I’ll meet you at the same spot.” I was so mad at myself, how could you be so forgetful, how could you be so irresponsible!, those thoughts racing through my head as I walked towards the drop off curve, waiting to hear another lecture about being prepared and yada yada yada.
There she was. I ran to the car, she rolled down the window… Here it comes, my heart pounded so hard, I felt the pulse in my head – “Here, you’ll be fine son”. Wait, what?! - Speechless. I expected her to just bust out with the lecture, but, no? “Stop worrying, okay?” “I gotta go pick up your sister now” I answered confusingly, “Okay by mom, love you” “Love you too” As I walked back on to the curve, I was still in that wow moment. She actually trusts me on this trip? She sounded like she wasn’t even worried. I was the one who was pissing in my pants, ME, not her!
That day, I had a confidence that I have never experienced before. I had no worries, no unsure thoughts – all gone. Trust was something I’ve always wanted from my mom, and I got it. I knew at the time I was irresponsible and naïve but, from such a small mistake, a miracle bloomed. I am coming of age.
I picked up my duffle bag and walked over to Shain, “Is everything alright?” With a smile on my face, “Yeah, everything’s gonna be alright”.
